Before Christmas I recieved a call from a friend who suggested we should make scarves for the ladies we visit. Well, I hadn't knitted in two years. After getting reacquainted with my sticks I couldn't stop myself. I have now made well over a dozen.

Most of them I have given away, including this one that was so soft, I wanted to make a blanket out of the yarn. Maybe I will.

Here is a simple stitch that makes a great masculine scarf. I use a very manly yarn that is thick and rustic with just a bit of wool in it. It's called Farrow Rib:
CO multiple of 3 sts. +1
Row1: *k2, p1* rep. end k1
Row2: p1 *k2, p1* rep.

The pattern for the very top blue one is called Diagonal Eyelet: CO an even # of sts.
k 6 rows
Row1: (ws) k1, *yo, k2tog.,rep.* last st.k
Row2: k
Row3: k2 *yo, k2tog. rep.* last 2 st. k
Row4: k
Repeat R1-4 until desired length

The Cranberry scarf is called Faggot Stitch (I think it's kinda funny that it turns out twisted) It's super easy:Row1: k1, yo, k2tog. repeat

The teal scarf is called Basket weave it is also very easy. There are many, many free patterns on-line. I also found YouTube to be very helpful in showing me how to do certain stitches. Check out my knitting links if your interested.
